IHRC voluntees joined forces with a London charity this weekend to provide meals for the homeless and those living in hardship in the capital.

One hundred packets of food were supplied to the Children of Adam which holds a weekly distribution of food, clothing and blankets in central London. The initiative is a lifeline for people who cannot get into shelters, are unable to claim benefits, and are forced to sleep out on the streets or in unsafe locations. They include women and children.

The IHRC hopes that its small gesture will encourage others to appreciate Muslims’ collective responsibility to address the needs of their societies.

The defining feaure of the Islamic concept of ownership is that people only hold that which Allah has given them in trust – it was not man’s before it was passed on to him, nor will it not be his after he passes on.  This attitude of being aloof from owning things, and referring the ownership of all things to Allah fosters a true sense of caring for those who are less fortunate and induces a feeling of solidarity and brotherhood within this larger human family.

IHRC chair Massoud Shadjareh said:”We are honoured to be able to take part in ventures like this. As the numbers of those in need are ever increasing, IHRC hopes other groups will join us to support Children of Adam and other such projects around the country.”

“And what reason have you that you should not fight in the way of Allah and of the weak among the men and the women and the children, (of) those who say: Our Lord! Cause us to go forth from this town, whose people are oppressors, and give us from Thee a guardian and give us from Thee a helper.”
