Dear MP (Name),

Second anniversary of Zaria massacre and illegal detention of Sheikh Zakzaky

I write with regard to my previous letter to you in this regard and look forward to your speedy response.

December 2017 marked the second anniversary of horrendous Zaria massacre and illegal detention of IMN leader Sheikh Zakzaky and hundreds of IMN members. I am writing to you to raise this issue in Parliament to demand justice for Zaria Massacre, immediate release of Sheikh Zakzaky and halt the continuing persecution of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN).

In addition to the massacres of December 2015, and the hundreds of detentions without charge, or arrests and sentences based on trumped up charges, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky the movement’s leader and Mallimah Zeenah remain imprisoned without charge despite a court order demanding their release from December 2016.

I am sure you agree that this is unacceptable state of affairs, and that the Government must intervene to ensure that these injustices are rectified immediately.

I urge your office to take this issue to Parliament and take all necessary actions against the government of Nigeria until such a time as their political process returns to some form of democratic practice and due process.

Further, I demand immediate sanctions be placed against Nigeria for its continued violations of basic human rights norms in this and other cases.

I look forward to hearing from you regarding the action your office will take in this matter.

Yours sincerely,

DSS releases 2 Members of Islamic Movt Arrested In Jigawa
30 December 2017 - Reflections Online

Reports reaching us at Reflections, indicate that the two members of the Islamic Movement arrested by Nigerian army last week in Tsangarwa in Jigawa state have been released.

The duo, Musa Dauda and Musbahu Muhammad, were unjustifiably arrested after soldiers besieged the town of Tsangarwa and conducted a house-to-house search for weapons, which according to them, were said to be stockpiled by certain people in the locality. Although they did not find any weapons after the search, they nevertheless arrested 2 people, who were members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria. They were later handed to the DSS in Dutse, the Jigawa state capital.

No charges were brought against them nor were they told why the arrest was made in the first place. Their release was unconditional after having spent more than a week in wrongful detention.

Zaria Genocide: A Conspiracy Of Silence
19 December 2017 By Ibrahim Musa President Media forum of IMN

The silence of the International community with regards to the Zaria massacre of December, 2015 is deafening. Not even the open confession of the government that it killed at least 347 of its civilian citizens without recourse to the law, nor the declaration that it secretly dug a mass grave, universally agreed a crime against humanity, in attempt to hide its criminality could elicit a deserved national and international outrage.

Credible human rights organizations such as Amnesty International, Humana rights watch and Islamic Human rights commission have on several occasions since the infamous Zaria massacre by the Nigerian army in December, 2015 condemned the barbarity displayed by the army on unarmed civilians with indisputable proofs, but to the chagrin of people of conscience the UN body has kept mute on the issue...

Islamic Movement Adds Voice to The NGO Regulatory Bill Debate
19 December 2017

The Islamic Movement has come out to join in the ongoing discourse on the attempts at enacting a “NGO Regulatory Bill” that seeks to severely curtail the functions of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), stating that it strongly believes the motive of the Bill is related to it.
The government’s main but secret grouse with NGOs generally at the moment has a direct link with the way and manner Amnesty and Human Rights Watch in particular as well as several others in general exposed their crimes in the Zaria massacre...

Buhari Formally Endorses Massacres By Extending Tenure of Murderous Army Chief Buratai
19 December 2017 by Dr. Perry Brimah
By extending the tenure of the serially implicated army chief Tukur Yusuf Buratai, Nigeria’s president Muhammadu Buhari can no longer be excused from culpability in some of the most horrendous crimes against humanity and God in recent human history. Buhari has clearly positively appraised the blood-of-the-innocents soaked army chief and endorsed his corruption allegations and massacre record.

Silence over Zaria killings criminal – Senator Sani
17 December 2017

Senator Shehu Sani (APC, Kaduna Central) said in a statement that the attacks on the homes and members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, “is nothing but an indiscriminate and disproportionate use of force by the military.

“Silence and neutrality to this amount to nothing but aiding and abetting a clear and undisguised abuse of fundamental human rights,” the senate committee deputy chairman on foreign affairs said...

Reflections: This speech was delivered in 1992 at Zaria
By His eminence Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky

"We must realize that this will not take us out of the woods. Even if all the people were to call for the resignation of Babangida, a worse tyrant will take up the mantle. That is the fact. When Shagari was the president, people wanted him out. The moment he was toppled, Buhari took over. Then people felt that things were much better with Shagari than with Buhari. Now after removal of Buhari, people are again saying Buhari is even better. Now, if Babangida is to step aside, people will agitate; "why will he not come back?"

It is like a spoilt car. You keep changing drivers because of your erroneous belief that the problem is with the drivers. As long as the car is not repaired, the journey will never be smooth. The problem is not about drivers.
For the avoidance of doubts, only a just system will produce just leaders. Thus, our efforts must be geared towards ensuring a just system. A just system will necessarily have to produce just leaders"

Reflections: Recalling the chilling Account of Minors Chargede last year
Published by FreeZakzaky committee

The show of shame of the Nigerian authorities in display, in the official persecution policy of the Buhari government in his attempt at exterminating the Islamic Movement in Nigeria has no limit. The unfathomable abyss was when authorities arrested, detained and charged minors, as young as 3 years for “public disturbances” and other absurd charges such as being in possession of dangerous weapons, sometimes last year in Jos.
Minors charged include a 3-year old Salamatu (called Hajiya), click here to listen the ordeal narrated by the oldest minor in the group Maryam Ali, 12 years.
