We are continuing to ask people to write to the Commonwealth and demand their intervention in the case. During this week, #FreeZakzaky protesters were back on the streets of the Nigerian capital Abuja as the government eased the Covid-19 lockdown. Followers of El-Zakzak, also organised protests to condemn the murder of George Floyd, systemic racism and police brutality in the US. Also Find details of how to campaign below.

Re: Commonwealth’s Failure To Save Innocent Lives amid Covid-19 crisis
Dear Baroness Scotland QC,
I am shocked to find that the Nigerian president’s amnesty on 9 April to 2500 prisoners did not include Sheikh El-Zakzaky and his wife Muallima Zeenah and indeed other political and relevant prisoners.
Sheikh El-Zakzaky and Muallima Zeenah continue to be held in illegal detention despite a 2016 federal high court ruling that their detention is unlawful and unconstitutional. I am writing to you to urge the Nigerian government to release Sheikh Ibraheem el-Zakzaky and Muallima Zeenah immediately. Their continued illegal detention in Kaduna State prison poses a high risk to their health especially in the current Coronavirus climate.
This is a policy that needs to be implemented quickly in Nigeria not just for the Sheikh and his wife, both of whom have underlying health conditions, but for all prisoners wherever possible for the sake of justice and also for the sake of Nigerian society as a whole.

Followers of El-Zakzaky Condemn Systematic Racism in USA

Followers of El-Zakzaky rallied to condemn the murder of George Floyd in USA by its security forces. Police Officer pressed his knee over the neck as George could not breathe. George kept saying “ I can’t breathe, I can’t breathe until he gave up”. This form of oppression is just one of its kinds by American security forces and in most cases such oppression is based on racism and social difference. See pictures below.
COVID-19: Nigerian soldiers allegedly flog food seller to death

Nigerian soldiers allegedly flogged an elderly woman, a food seller, to death recently in Nasarawa state, North-Central Nigeria, for allegedly violating the lockdown order in the state, according to a report by a non-government organisation. The report was released by CLEEN Foundation on June 1.
