PRESS RELEASE: NIGERIA – Zakzaky medical condition requires overseas treatment
Scaremongering by authorities regarding Islamic Movement prior to hearing old and tired tactic
Prior to the resumed court hearing regarding the release of Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky on Monday 29 July, IHRC wishes to clarify that all the doctors who attended the Sheikh from the international group granted access earlier this year, the Sheikh’s personal doctors, as well as those doctors who prepared the reports on lead and cadmium poisonng agree that he needs to be treated for his medical conditions outside of Nigeria.
There have also been reports circulating that a staged “rescue attempt” of the Sheikh or the like, has been planned by security services, under the aegis of the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno in an attempt to blame Islamic Movement figures for unrest and criminality.
The Movement have issued a statement making clear any such acts, should they happen, are nothing to do with its supporters. Observers note this is not the first time false flag events have been attributed to Monguno.
IHRC Chair, Massoud Shadjareh stated:
“Justice in the case of Sheikh El-Zakzaky is long overdue. We are praying that Monday’s hearing sees his release for immediate departure to medical treatment abroad.”
