The NHS has been repurposed from being a publicly provided health system to an American-style ‘managed care’ system locked in with the passage of the health and care act into law in July. This covert process represents the greatest betrayal of the public interest. Copying an expensive, dysfunctional system which delivers worse outcomes for patients must be understood and resisted.
