Summary

IHRC is resharing its seminar and advice for parents of children showing solidarity with Palestine at school.  This alert provides advice on your child’s rights to show solidarity, and what to do if your child has been targeted because of their views.

Requested Action / Resources

The seminar ‘Children’s Rights to Express Solidarity with Palestine’ was broadcast in May 2021 on ihrc.tv.  You can watch the full event and read a summary at the end of the page.

  1. For specific information on your child’s rights please watch Mudassar Arani (approx. 7 mins) discuss your and your child’s rights under UK and international law

2. For additional information watch the Q&A session of the seminar here.

3. If your child has been disciplined or singled out a teacher or their school for showing support for Palestine, please contact IHRC for support and advice. Email advocacy@ihrc.org.

4. If your child has been targeted under the Prevent program, it is important to remember the following:

Your child has not committed an offence just because s/he has been singled out under the PREVENT programme.  They do not need to engage with the PREVENT officer without a parent or lawyer present.  Please make sure your child knows this.

You can also contact IHRC for help and support, by emailing advocacy@ihrc.org.
