The First Ten Days of RamadanPalestinian Keffiyeh are now available at IHRC Bookshop!

The keffiyeh is a traditional headdress worn by men from parts of the Middle East. It is fashioned from a square scarf, and is usually made of cotton. The keffiyeh is commonly found in arid regions, as it provides protection from sunburn, dust and sand. Since the 1930s Arab Revolts in Palestine, the black and white fishnet patterned keffiyeh were used as a national symbol of Palestinian Solidarity and was further popularised by Yasser Arafat’s donning of the scarf. Zaytoun Dates are Back in Stock!

Every Ramadan, IHRC stock Zaytoun Palestinian Medjoul Dates sourced from Palestinian farmers around the ancient city of Jericho, an occupied area in the West Bank, where vast tracts of land have been illegally confiscated by the Israeli government.

The Palestinian farmers in Jericho face daily struggles of living under military occupation and the threat of expanding Israeli settlements, as well as receiving no state subsidies and restrictions to things such as movement, resources and access to water. To purchase, click here.

THROWBACK: Author Evening with Dr Bilal Ware: The Walking Quran

On 21 December 2021, IHRC hosted Dr Bilal Ware who discussed his publication, The Walking Qur’an: Islamic Education, Embodied Knowledge, and History in West Africa. Click the video below to what the recording of the event.

Dr Rudolph ‘Bilal’ T. Ware III is an Amerian historian of West Africa, at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He formerly taught at the University of Michigan and before then at Northwestern University. Dr Ware’s research spans the last thousand years, centering on West Africa, while reaching into the Mediterranean lands of Islam and the Atlantic worlds of the African Diaspora. He received his Ph.D. in history in 2004 from the University of Pennsylvania.

Greg Paprocki works full-time as an illustrator and book designer.
