Abdur Rahman ibn Awf reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Verily, Ramadan is a month in which Allah Almighty has obligated its fasting. I have instituted for Muslims the practice of prayer at night. Thus, whoever fasts it with faith and expecting reward will be rid of sins like the day he was born from his mother.”

Help Muslim prisoners by donating prison packs
“And feed with food the needy, the orphan and the prisoner, for love of Him.” Quran 76:8
We send out prison packs and individual items all year round, IHRC receives requests from prisoners and Muslim Chaplains for essential items such as hijabs, prayer mats, perfume bars, Quran’s.
In Ramadan our packs are more substantial and this year, as ever, IHRC is supporting Muslim prisoners in the UK by supplying them with Ramadan packs to assist them to make the most of the holy month. We see it as our duty to support them in their isolation and help them gain the benefits of Ramadan.
This years pack will include the following items:
• Tasbih/prayer beads
• Sweets
• Ramadan/Eid card with a message of support
• Will include either of these books: ‘The Power of Du’a’ by Aliyah Umm Raiyaan or ‘A Handbook of Accepted Prayers’ by Ibn Daud
Each pack costs approximately £20 and this is a Zakat eligible project.

THROWBACK: Author Evening with Mukhtar H. Ali: Philosophical Sufism
On 5 August 2022, IHRC hosted Mukhtar H. Ali who discussed his publication ‘Philosophical Sufism’. Click below to watch the online recording of the event.
Dr. Mukhtar Ali is a scholar of Islamic Studies, specializing in Sufism, Islamic philosophy and ethics. His areas of interest include Arabic and Persian literature, Qurʾānic studies, theology, traditional medicine and comparative religion. He is the author of Philosophical Sufism: An Introduction to the School of Ibn al-ʿArabī (Routledge, 2021) and The Horizons of Being: The Metaphysics of Ibn al-ʿArabī in the Muqaddimat al-Qayṣarī (Brill, 2020).
While his teaching includes Islamic Studies and Arabic language, he is also a practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine, having earned a master’s degree from Emperor’s College of Traditional Oriental Medicine (2011) and his doctorate from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine (2017). Integrating his knowledge of traditional medicine and religious studies, he is developing a course on healing traditions.
The Complaint and the Answer: The Human Grievance and The Divine Response – Muhammad Iqbal
In these two poems, Iqbal discusses the fall of the Muslim ummah, probes into its causes, shows his bereavement and offers a solution along with a message of hope. In the first poem, Iqbal complains to God about the deplorable condition of the Muslim world and society and prays for divine help. In the second poem, which he wrote a few years later, he relays a response to the complaints on behalf of God.
In elaborating the causes of the rise and fall of the Muslim ummah, Iqbal hoped that Muslims would use them as a springboard for reviving their former status of prestige and glory. Iqbal’s poetry has such great variety that several anthologies of it could be compiled, each quite different from the other. The series aims at introducing Iqbal’s poetry to the English-speaking world. While scholars and students will benefit from the work, it is hoped that general readers, both Muslim and non-Muslim, will find this series useful and interesting.
