We hope you are well and that your Ramadan has been productive. May Allah accept your fasting and worship during this blessed time.

The first ten days of Ramadan were days of mercy and we have now entered the second ten days which are days of Allah’s forgiveness.

Abdur Rahman ibn Awf reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Verily, Ramadan is a month in which Allah Almighty has obligated its fasting. I have instituted for Muslims the practice of prayer at night. Thus, whoever fasts it with faith and expecting reward will be rid of sins like the day he was born from his mother.”

During this blessed month, IHRC Bookshop & Gallery are offering 15% discount off all Islamic books. The discount code is RAMADAN2024.

The Second Ten Days of RamadanThe Complaint and the Answer: The Human Grievance and The Divine Response – Muhammad Iqbal

In these two poems, Iqbal discusses the fall of the Muslim ummah, probes into its causes, shows his bereavement and offers a solution along with a message of hope. In the first poem, Iqbal complains to God about the deplorable condition of the Muslim world and society and prays for divine help. In the second poem, which he wrote a few years later, he relays a response to the complaints on behalf of God.

In elaborating the causes of the rise and fall of the Muslim ummah, Iqbal hoped that Muslims would use them as a springboard for reviving their former status of prestige and glory. Iqbal’s poetry has such great variety that several anthologies of it could be compiled, each quite different from the other. The series aims at introducing Iqbal’s poetry to the English-speaking world. While scholars and students will benefit from the work, it is hoped that general readers, both Muslim and non-Muslim, will find this series useful and interesting.

We also have the following Iqbal works available at IHRC Bookshop:
The Devil’s Advisory Council – Muhammad Iqbal
Ghazi and the Garden: Poetry of Muhammad Iqbal by Zirrar
Tulip in the Desert: A Selection of Poetry of Muhammad Iqbal
The Reconstruction of Religious Thought in Islam

The Second Ten Days of RamadanThe Imam and The Atheist – Mohamed A. Azeez

Inspired by true events, this book is a conversation between two men: a man whose nephew has lost his faith, and an Imam who sits at the heart of his community to set a moral and ethical compass. The imam is challenged by questions surrounding faith, and tries to aid the uncle in how best to provide guidance to his struggling nephew. What follows is an open and honest dialogue, which examines the most philosophical arguments to make a case for the existence of God.

The Idle Stance of the Tippler Pigeon – Safinah Danish ElahiThe Second Ten Days of Ramadan

Zohaib, Misha and Nadia believed they would be in each other’s lives forever. As children they played, argued, teased and loved one another. Yet nothing could have prepared them for the tragic turn of events one fateful afternoon in Karachi, Pakistan, when the divisions and differences between them are revealed.

Years later and they are still trying to piece their lives back together, still trying to make sense of what happened.

Zohaib is living in London, haunted by the ghosts of the past. Nadia has escaped the household where she first met Misha and Zohaib but finds fate delivering her back to their door…

The Idle Stance of the Tippler Pigeon is a beautifully rendered portrait of love, healing, and long-buried pain, digging deep into the nature of trauma and class division.
