According to the United Nations, the attacks on southern and eastern Lebanon and the capital Beirut have been the deadliest in years. The local Ministry of Public Health reports that over 600 people have died including 50 children and nearly 2,000 have been injured. According to Lebanon’s disaster risk management unit, Some 111,000 people have been displaced from south Lebanon due to the ongoing violence, and 90,000 more are facing fresh displacement—often quickly and without necessities like medications. Many are traumatised from losing homes and loved ones. We are expecting casualties and fatalities to increase unfortunately, the need is already immense.

Families have been torn apart, homes and ambulances destroyed, and tens of thousands of people have fled for their lives. Humanitarian agencies have reported the work is becoming increasingly difficult for healthcare providers. The recent attacks in Gaza has shown that health facilities are not protected from attacks, Lebanon most likely will not be an exception either. Medical staff are working around the clock to provide emergency care, they are working at their limits, all under the constant threat to their own lives.
