Press Release: Latest Slur on Interpal Despicable
The Islamic Human Rights Commission is very disturbed at the latest attempt to slander the good name of humanitarian charity, Interpal.
Reports that the US government is pressuring the British authorities to re-investigate Interpal are to be condemned. Interpal has twice been cleared by the Charity Commission of having any links with terrorism. In addition, last month, the Board of Deputies of British Jews publicly apologised for branding Interpal a “terrorist organisation”
Massoud Shadjareh, chair of IHRC today said:
“This latest attack on Interpal is shocking and seems to be politically motivated particularly in light of the fact that no evidence of any terrorist links was found by the Charity Commission.”
IHRC is also deeply concerned at reports that a treasury minister, Ivan Lewis, is to meet the Israeli ambassador for urgent talks over Interpal. If true, such a meeting would be further evidence of the politically motivated nature of investigations of Interpal and other charities carrying out vital humanitarian work in Occupied Palestine.
