IHRC welcomes news that Dr Sa’eed al-Zu’air, his son Dr Mubarak al-Zu’air, Mr Mukhlif Al- Shammari and Mr Thamer Al-Khidr have been released by the Saudi authorities. All four men have been ardent human rights activists among Saudi civil society, often promoting constitutional and political reform. They were arbitrarily detained and often held in incommunicado for over a year whilst being subjugated to abhorrent conditions.
IHRC is very grateful to all those who campaigned for the men’s release and congratulates them for their tireless efforts. IHRC urges them not to forget about the thousands of other innocent detainees languishing in prison cells around the world as part of the ‘war on terror’. IHRC will continue to highlight their plight through Alerts and urges campaigners to continue to support these campaigns.
IHRC was one of a number of organizations campaigning for the men’s release including Al Karama Foundation.

“And what reason have you that you should not fight in the way of Allah and of the weak among the men and the women and the children, (of) those who say: Our Lord! Cause us to go forth from this town, whose people are oppressors, and give us from Thee a guardian and give us from Thee a helper.”
Holy Qur’an: Chapter 4, Verse 75
