18.46 IHRC can confirm that Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky and Mallimah Zeenah have departed Nigeria for India to commence medical treatment.

This is good news, but not the end of their trauma or indeed the struggle for justice in Nigeria.  Campaigners are asked to remember all those detained, injured and the families of those killed by Nigerian authorities in their prayers.

We continue to demand justice from the Nigerian authorities for all of those whose lives have been curtailed and whose rights have been violated from the Islamic Movement and beyond. 

We ask campaigners once more to not share various speculations on the case but seek verified information from Sheikh El-Zakzaky’s office or ourselves.

NB: The UK protest outside the Nigeria High Commission is suspended in light of this news.
