The Islamic Human Rights Commission presents a
STUDENT CONFERENCE ON CAMPAIGNING FOR HUMAN RIGHTS

This conference is aimed at university and college students and its purpose is to raise awareness of the plight of Muslims around the world and to equip Muslims with practical knowledge and skills on how to campaign for human rights and justice.
“Let there be among you a group that invites to the good, enjoins what is right and forbids what is evil, and they are those who are successful.” (Qur’an 3:104).
The conference will address the following areas:
Campaigning for Human Rights – Arzu Merali, Director of Research
Campaigning for Palestine – Massoud Shadjareh, Chairman of IHRC
Campaigning for Prisoners of Faith – Momina Khan, Director of Prisoners of Faith
Campaigning with the Media – Faisal Bodi, journalist
(It is anticipated that other speakers will also be attending and holding workshops).
The morning session of the conference will include a series of brief lectures on current IHRC projects and various aspects of campaigning. In the afternoon, workshops will be held to enable students to participate and learn/ improve campaigning techniques.

‘PRISONERS OF FAITH’ SPEAKERS’ TOUR
From October – December 2002
It has been estimated that there are approximately 250,000 Muslim prisoners of faith around the world today held for no other reason than their faith. It is all too easy to forget about these prisoners of faith, who can be subjected to the most extreme and brutal forms of torture. The purpose of this tour is to raise awareness of the plight of these people whom the world refuses to acknowledge, and to encourage people to take up their struggle.
“And what reason have you that you should not fight in the way of Allah and of the weak among the men, women and children (of) those who say: Our Lord! Cause us to go forth from this town, whose people are oppressors, and give us from Thee a guardian and give us from Thee a helper.” (Qur’an 4:75)
