1. Summary
The Islamic Human Rights Commission has recently learned that Seyed M. Mousavi was released from prison on 25 January 2010. IHRC welcomes this heartening news while the fight for Seyed Mousavi’s freedom continues. Seyed M. Mousavi still awaits a circuit court decision over the appeal of his entire case.
When asked what message he had for his supporters, Seyed Mousavi told IHRC:
“I’m very happy and grateful for the prayers and support from all the brothers and sisters who all helped in bringing me back home. I sincerely thank all those who lent their support by way of prayer or financial contribution. I ask you all to continue praying till this is over.”
IHRC urges campaigners to continue their support in this crucial moment for the Mousavi case. We will work on bringing you further updates and possible campaign action alerts as more developments happen.
2. Background
Mousavi served a total of 2 and a half years, being sentenced in April 2008 on felony convictions of an alleged violation of the US/Iran trade embargo, failing to report income, and lying on his naturalization application. Mousavi’s then attorney Ronald Kaye helped, with IHRC’s support, to dramatically reduce his sentence with the introduction of key testimonies.
Uncannily, Mousavi was later transferred to Indiana’s notorious CMU (Communication Management Unit), a unit within the Federal Correctional Complex at Terre Haute. CMU, frequently nicknamed the ‘Muslim-only prison’, has been the issue of ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) concern repeatedly over prisoner conditions and restrictions.

“And what reason have you that you should not fight in the way of Allah and of the weak among the men and the women and the children, (of) those who say: Our Lord! Cause us to go forth from this town, whose people are oppressors, and give us from Thee a guardian and give us from Thee a helper.”
