Background
In Palestine, the land of our first Qibla, we have seen one of the worst genocides of our lifetime, caught on camera and shared on screens across the world. Due to the immense suffering that we have witnessed in the last year and a half, many of us feel like we need to do more this Ramadan to help the Palestinian people. To make that task easier, IHRC has drawn up a list of things that we can all do to support the people of Palestine this year.
Action Required
Boycott Israeli dates, and educate yourself and others on how to recognise them.
You can help do this by distributing our Boycott Israeli Dates leaflets. Many people do not realise that labels can be deceptive and that products often advertised as being from Palestine or Morocco can in fact be Israeli, whilst other dates companies have refused to put the origin of their dates on the packaging, which is in fact illegal. We offer leaflets with a guide on how to manoeuvre this purposely over-complicated situation and are asking for people to share these flyers.
To get hold of these flyers please email: huseyin@ihrc.org
Attend and promote the UK International al-Quds Day Rally.
Every year millions across the globe turn out to mark International al-Quds Day, a day dedicated to remembering and supporting the Palestinians. This year the London Rally will take start at Marble Arch and end at the BBC headquarters (23rd March, starting time 2.30pm). The BBC has been complicit in the Gaza Genocide, and this is no more apparent than in their recent decision to remove a documentary “Gaza: How to Survive a Warzone”.
As well as attending, you can help to promote the march, both online and by leaving leaflets in your local neighbourhood. To obtain these leaflets please email huseyin@ihrc.org
If you would like to volunteer on the day please email info@ihrc.org
Share our “Boycott Genocide” leaflets.
These leaflets, made with the help of Innovative Minds Human Rights Group (InMinds), highlight various companies and subsidiaries that were directly involved in the Gaza Genocide since October 8th They not only identify these companies, but give short explanations of how they have aided the Genocide. Please order them to hand out (in multiples of 100) by emailing huseyin@ihrc.org
#FlyTheFlag
Fly the flag of Palestine as much and as visibly as possible. Please go to our website to find out more about how you can take part in our #FlytheFlag campaign here. You can also buy Palestinian flags here.
Remember to make du’a
The power of du’a is confirmed in the Qur’an and therefore we are aware that nothing can succeed without the support of Allah, subhanahu wa ta’ala.
“When My servants ask you (O Prophet) about Me: I am truly near. I respond to one’s prayer when they call upon Me. So let them respond to Me and believe in Me, perhaps they will be guided (to the Right Way).”
Al-Baqara 2:186
Donate to help the Palestinian people.
You can do that in two different ways, firstly donate to towards humanitarian aid within Gaza here
It is also important to donate towards activism and to make sure that we can work towards a future where charity is no longer needed. IHRC has raised the issue of Gaza in the United Nations, has lobbied the Metropolitan police, and has supported protesters campaigning for the rights of the Palestinians. We have written many reports on state authoritarianism at Palestine protests, which have been cited by special rapporteurs at the UN General Assembly and in the report of the UN Special Rapporteur on the Promotion and Protection of the Right to Freedom of Opinion and Expression.
