CAMPAIGN UPDATE: Mirza Tahir Hussain’s Death Sentence Commuted
IHRC welcomes news of the commutation of the Mirza Tahir Hussain\’s death sentence on humanitarian grounds. Tahir has been imprisoned in Pakistan for 18 years after being unjustly convicted of the murder when he was only a teenager. IHRC is now calling for Tahir to be immediately released and safely returned to Britain.
IHRC is very grateful to all those who campaigned for Tahir’s release and congratulates them for their tireless efforts over several months in struggling for justice for Tahir. IHRC urges them not to forget about the thousands of other prisoners incarcerated in Pakistan because of miscarriages of justice.
IHRC is part of a broad coalition or organizations campaigning for Tahir, including Amnesty International, Fair Trials Abroad, Reprieve, and Human Rights Watch.

“And what reason have you that you should not fight in the way of Allah and of the weak among the men and the women and the children, (of) those who say: Our Lord! Cause us to go forth from this town, whose people are oppressors, and give us from Thee a guardian and give us from Thee a helper.”
