JUDGE TO GIVE FINAL VERDICT ON 17th MAY 2005
The Extradition Hearing began in November 2004.
Under the new Extradition Treaty 2003, the USA did not need to provide any evidence to the Court back its allegations against Babar Ahmad.
Lawyers gave expert evidence that on extradition Babar would suffer gross abuses to his human rights, including:
· Solitary confinement
· No access to visitors, including family
· No private access to a lawyer
· Transfer to Military detention (e.g. Guantanamo Bay)
· Secret kidnapping to a third state for torture (rendition)
· Likelihood of facing death penalty
The USA made “promises” not to abuse his Human Rights
CAN WE REALLY TRUST THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA?
100,000’s dead in Iraq War, No Weapons of Mass Destruction, Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo Bay…
Family and supporters brace themselves in anticipation towards the day when the judge will give his final verdict regarding the extradition trial of Babar Ahmad.
At Babar\’s last court appearance on 20th April 2005, District Judge Timothy Workman informed the Court that he would deliver his verdict and reasons for his decision at 10am on Tuesday 17th May 2005 at Bow Street Magistrate\’s Court, London.
A demonstration will be held outside the Court where family and supporters are encouraged to gather to hear the outcome.
If Babar is relased that day he could walk out to his awaiting supporters. If the Judge agrees to the extradition, the world will see that the people will not allow
Babar to be sent to the USA that easily.
BE THERE TO TELL THE WORLD WE WILL NOT ALLOW HIS EXTRADITION
STAND UP FOR JUSTICE! STAND UP FOR BABAR!
