As the Blessed Month of Ramadan ends and we enter the Blessed Month of Shawwal, we ask Allah to accept our fast and our worship and good deeds. May Allah purify our sins and shower His blessings and mercy upon us all.
Allah instructs the Muslims: “Say: In Allah’s grace and mercy let them rejoice. That is far better than whatever (wealth) they accumulate” (Qur’an 10:58).
Eid is a joyous day: a day when we wear our best clothes, attend the Eid salah, and spend the day spreading love and joy in our families and communities. We congratulate each other and ask Allah to accept each other’s deeds in Ramadan. We strengthen family bonds by inviting and visiting our relatives. We share food with our neighbours and the poor.

Help the people of Nigeria against State Violence
With the recent attacks on Pro-Palestinian protesters during Al-Quds Day in Nigeria, it is important for Muslims to be aware of the state violence in Nigeria which has resulted in catastrophic and life changing injuries for many critics and those that protest against the government. Lack of funds means that even when there is hope of recovery, medical treatment is unavailable for victims.
This includes injuries from bullets, knife attacks, baton charging, tear-gassing and other forms of physical violence resulting in:
- Temporary and permanent paralysis
- Blindness and sight injuries
- Amputations
- Broken bones
- Torn ligaments
Medical treatment to alleviate and heal those injuries including access to local doctors or specialist treatment in Nigeria or abroad for the more complex injuries.
This can cost anywhere between £1000 & £3000 to treat injuries caused by gunshot wounds.
Medical equipment like crutches and wheelchairs cost between £150 & £700.
Monthly food packages for families of those killed or imprisoned cost £70 per month or £840 for the whole year.

Below are books currently available at IHRC Bookshop:
A Handbook of Spiritual Medicine – Ibn Daud
This spiritual guide to the self is a handbook of tazkiyah or ‘self-purification’. Not only does it illustrate the maladies of the human spiritual condition, it recognises the struggles and insecurities we all succumb to from time to time, and offers up the remedies too.
This guidebook, drawing on the 11th and 12th Century works of the ‘Proof of Islam’ and the wondrous sage, Imam Abu Hamid Al-Ghazali can be applied to our busy lives in the modern, hi-tech era, and will prove accessible to people of all ages, all denominations: believers and non-believers alike.
Remembering Beautiful Days in Jerusalem – Mohammad Akram Nadwi
A group of British Muslims visited us in the last ten days of the month of Ramadan in the year 1436 AH/2015 CE. They came in large numbers, and their ranks included a number of scholars, speakers, and people of knowledge.
Among them was an eminent Muslim scholar, a blessing from God for the believers, and a man worthy of mention in the heavens – God willing. He was our beloved brother Dr. Mohammad Akram Nadwi, God preserve him and protect him from every evil.
I found him to be a man of real knowledge and practice, one belonging to the ranks of those who are mentioned as models of excellence, precision and deep understanding.
The Greatest Jihad – Imam Khomeini
In this short work, Imam Khomeini invited all to refinement of the soul, asceticism and piety. Addressing students in seminaries, the reminds them to take heed of the fact that the major purpose of the prophets has been spiritual progress and moral improvement, and that they must not content themselves with learning a few terms of Islamic jurisprudence.
Billion Dollar Muslim: Why We Need Spiritually Inspired Entrepreneurs – Khuram Malik
Born out of Khuram Malik’s aspirations to sow the seeds of a flourishing generation of successful Muslim entrepreneurs, Billion Dollar Muslim is a book which opens our eyes to the great possibilities that can be achieved when the entrepreneurial mindset is embraced.
Khuram speaks from personal experience, and he does an amazing job of sharing his conviction that the advantages of entrepreneurship can wield great benefit not only to the individual but also to the Muslim Ummah and society as a whole. Khuram’s perspective of entrepreneurship through the lenses of Islamic beliefs and values makes this a unique presentation that is motivating, uplifting, and refreshing. Billion Dollar Muslim is a must read for anyone slaving within the constrictions of the traditional 9 to 5, dreaming of living an improved version of themselves, and wanting to leave a legacy of positive change in the world around them.
A Thinking Person’s Guide to Our Times – H. R. H. Prince Ghazi Muhammad
This book takes on the task of determining the challenges and problems of the Muslim Umma in the recent past, the present and, more importantly, in the future and suggest practical solutions for them. Obviously, one short book can hardly address all these issues and suggest solutions without certain simplifications and potentially controversial assertions.
Tales of Mini Maryam – Kosser Abdul Aziz
Welcome to the delightful world of 3 year old Maryam captured and delivered with 6 heart-warming short stories. Maryam whizzes around her house collecting and loading almost everything on to her tiny push chair, only to be met with disaster but, is all at loss? No, for Maryam remembers the power of dua (prayer).
What do we say after we have sneezed? Why do people go on pilgrimage? Can mini Maryam pray with her family? What do we say before we eat? Curious mini Maryam soon finds out. Join Maryam as she discovers when and why to read certain Islamic prayers and to also keep her family in check!
The Productive Muslim – Where Faith Meets Productivity – Mohammed Faris
Ever wondered if there’s a practical way to lead a productive lifestyle that combines the best of Islamic tradition and modern psychology and science?
In “The ProductiveMuslim” Mohammed Faris, the founder of ProductiveMuslim.com, provides this practical framework that helps urban global Muslims lead a productive lifestyle Spiritually, Physically, and Socially.
Man and His Destiny – Murtaza Mutahhari
The question of fate and destiny is a philosophical question, and should normally be looked for in the books of philosophy. However, in this book it has been taken out of its proper context and grouped with questions which are neither connected with regard to its subject nor with its object of its study.
Here this question is being studied under the heading of “The causes of the decline of the Muslims”. This heading includes various subjects, events and questions, namely historical, psychological, moral, social and religious.
The only link which binds these subjects together is their positive or negative effects on the progress and the decline of the Muslim society. The aim here is to see whether a belief in destiny as required by philosophical reasoning is one of those ideas which lead its adherents to lethargy.
Are the believers automatically dragged to decline and decay or is it a doctrine which has no ill effect if it is expounded in a sound manner. Here we will see how Islam has presented this question and with what effect on its followers.
