Human Rights Council.
June 2010
Agenda item 6
Mr. President,
The Islamic Human Rights Commission (IHRC) welcomes the closure, by the Iranian government, of the Kahrizak detention centre over the deaths while in custody of three detainees subsequent to the post-election demonstrations in 2009. Further IHRC welcomes the charges brought against twelve officials from the centre including those relating to the deaths.
Notwithstanding this, IHRC urges the Iranian government to ensure that those arrested and currently charged for offences relating to violence and the demonstrations after the elections and subsequently, are given due process. In this regard IHRC welcomes the release of director Jafar Panahi and others arrested in related matters. Â
Further IHRC urges the Iranian government to continue ensuring that all arrests and prosecutions are transparent and based on security and justice for all.
Thank you Mr. President.
