On October 11, 1997, Prime Minister Tony Blair announced that the U.K. would adopt the European Commission on Human Rights (ECHR) into its domestic laws. For Muslims, this would mean a recognition of discrimination based on religious grounds in law. Less than 2 weeks later, the Runnymede Trust published its report on Islamophobia. It identified the fears faced by and against the Muslim community living in the West.
