INTRODUCTION

This week we are continuing to ask people to keep pressure on African Union by writing emails/letters, demanding justice for the victims of Assura procession attacks and release of the Sheikh and all those unjustly imprisoned.

During this week another victim of Police brutality on Ashura 2019 attack attained martyrdom after spending several days in Katsina hospital.  The #FreeZakzaky protests continued in Nigeria, despite heavy rains, read more about the weekly updates in this digest.

Re: African Union’s Failure To Save Innocent Lives

Nigeria has been the subject of repeated complaints over its killings of supporters of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria. African Union’s silence on this issue is putting more innocent lives at risk. Recently Nigerian security forces opened fire on annual Ashura processions and killed over a dozen peaceful marchers, arrested, tortured and injured hundreds of them.

It is imperative that you apply pressure on the Nigerian authorities so that they stop killing innocent people and immediately release the unlawfully detained leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria Sheikh Zakzaky and his wife Zeenah. They have been held in illegal detention for over 3 years.  You are doubtless aware of the details of his case. I am deeply concerned about their safety and security.

I urge your office to make known in unconditional terms that further violations against Islamic movement of Nigeria or indeed any other political or religious group will not be tolerated by your office or the African Union.

Brothers in Kaduna defy rain and actively demand unconditional release of Sheikh

Yet again, multitude of brothers and sisters of the Islamic Movement in the city of Kaduna, Nigeria, have staged massive peaceful protest demanding the immediate and unconditional release of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, his ailing wife and several other followers languishing in different detention cells across the nation.

The protest took to the Namdi Azikiwe express way, Western bypass Thursday evening the 26th of September 2019 marching peacefully and voicing out their demand- the release of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky without any conditions.

Police Attack on Ashura: Funeral of Martyr Muhammad Ma’ruf Malumfashi
22 September 2019

Funeral of Shahid Muhammad Ma’aruf  Umar Malumfashi who attained martyrdom on Saturday the 21st of September 2019 took place in his home town Malumfashi on Sunday the 22nd of September 2019.

He attained martyrdom after spending several days in Katsina Medical Center receiving treatment of gunshot injuries he sustained during  Nigerian Police attack on Ashura mourning procession in Malumsfashi two weeks ago.
