7 of the students convicted hail from there, another 3 from UC Riverside (the eleventh student is from UCI and will have charges dismissed if he completes a community service order).

The defendants staged a protest during the speech by heckling at various intervals.  The case raises the spectre of censorship and criminalisation of protest.
