Press release – Europe: Weekend Against Islamophobia to discuss impact of Paris attacks
Together with Edinburgh, Brussels and Paris, Madrid and five other Spanish cities, London will host a series of initiatives being undertaken within the framework of international days against Islamophobia
These initiatives, organised for the third consecutive time in Europe, will take place against the backdrop of the attacks in Paris and its aftermath. To varying degrees in different countries, these attacks have caused a shock wave that is shaking our societies. They are being used by some as a pretext for installing a security climate that turns every Muslim into a potential suspect.
The fight against Islamophobia is necessary to defend our democratic freedoms and human rights. The international dimension that brings together the various initiatives affirms the universality of the anti-racist struggle and, through it, equality in law, respect and dignity of all human beings.
