PRESS RELEASE: Racism, Islamophobia and the British Police
IHRC notes with deep concern the findings of journalist Mark Daly after his undercover investigation of racism in the British police force.
Unfortunately these views come as no surprise to IHRC who have documented partial and discriminatory policing in the past. Its report entitled, ‘Muslim Profiling’ dealt with prejudicial policing practices related to the marked differential treatment received by Muslims and those protesting at a Muslim led in May 2002. The report can be downloaded in PDF format from:
https://www.ihrc.org.uk/show.php?id=402
The questions raised in this report regarding the operation of policies based on prejudicial profiling still need to be urgently addressed as much as the existence of a culture of racism which accommodates individual racist officers within British police forces.
