Press Release: Salman Rushdie Awarded Knighthood
The Islamic Human Rights Commission is deeply concerned by the recent knighthood awarded to Salam Rushdie in the Queen’s birthday honours.
In response, Chair of IHRC, Massoud Shadjareh stated:
“We remember quite clearly the arguments made at the height of the ‘Rushdie affair’ by the government that it was not supporting the abuse made by Salman Rushdie but only his right to do so. It is now apparent that his abuse of a quarter of the world’s population and the subsequent deaths of scores of protestors is not only being supported but indeed honoured. This is a testimony of the current legitimization of abuse and attack against the Muslim community.”
