Nigeria Qurbani 2019

Qurbani means sacrifice and the tradition of sacrificing an animal goes back to Prophet Ibrahim (AS), who dreamt that Allah ordered him to sacrifice his only son, Ismail. In his obedience to Allah, Ibrahim agreed to perform the task as instructed. Allah intervened and sent an animal to be sacrificed in Ismail’s place. Imam Zakzaky in our recent times has shown to us as to what sacrifice actually entails. He has lost six out of seven sons and he continues to give to the cause, whilst being imprisoned with his wife in critically ailing health.

We are reaching out to our supporters to perform your Qurbani through the Islamic Human Rights Commission Trust (IHRC Trust) in support of those that are standing up to the oppression in Nigeria.

Those who receive the Qurbani meat include the elderly, widowed women, orphaned children, the disabled and the poor. For the majority of these people in Nigeria, they have been isolated and persecuted continuously. There is little international attention given to the followers of Shaykh Zakzaky and as a result the wider Muslim community is not aware of the circumstances they find themselves in.

IHRC Trust has been providing essential medical aid to the victims of state violence.  Many of those who will receive this have been subjected to violence that has either crippled them or killed the breadwinner of the family. With your support we have been able to sponsor lifesaving medical interventions and family support.  This Eid ul Adha we wish to provide meat to victims. The Qurbani meat allows some families to eat meat after a whole year. Your Qurbani will foster a sense of solidarity with their plight and assist them in continuing to speak truth to power.
