Muslim leaders warned that British authorities are contributing to the spread of Islamophobia in the country, during a conference organized Saturday by the Islamic Human Rights Commission (IHRC) in London.

“Police remain at the service of a determined sector, which is the rich and the white,” said one of the conference’s speakers, the retired police officer Leroy Logan.

Logan explained that in order to guarantee security, Police are required to seek collaboration from the population. However according to the former officer, the implementation of U.K. anti-terrorism laws has disrupted the police from being able to work with all populations.

Logan also criticized the government’s promotion of “British values,” which “do not have a determined definition that would differentiate them from extremism.”

British writer Arun Kundani said Islam presented as if it was the opposite of British values. Kundani called for the union of all communities and institutions of civil society against the “Prevent Violent Extremism” program, which as created after the London attacks of July 7, 2005.
