The Sheikh has suffered a suspected stroke, and his condition is deteriorating.  Please make dua for him (updated 08 Jan 2018).

Sheikh Ibrahim el-Zakzaky, his wife Mallima Zeenah Ibrahim and hundred of members of the Islamic Movement have been illegally detained in Nigeria for more than two years since the Zaria massacres in December 2015 (details of this can be found on IHRC’s submission to the ICC here). Both the Sheikh and his wife are still injured from the shootings and violence that took place two years ago and need treatment.

In the last few days, Sheikh Zakzaky’s health has deteriorated, and he has been given access to his own doctor who suspect he has had a stroke.

Action Required

Campaigners are asked to demand the Nigerian authorities release Sheikh Zakzaky and his wife for urgent medical treatment abroad.

Campaigners are asked to write to or email the Nigeria President and the Nigerian Ambassador or High Commissioner in your country, using the model letter below.

The continued detention of both of these figures as well as hundreds of others has been a huge stain on the reputation of your government and Nigeria. By not allowing Sheikh Zakzaky and Mallima Zeenah, whose health continues to severely deteriorate as a result of injuries inflicted by your authorities, the medical treatment he needs, you are adding further evidence of your government’s inhumanity and cruelty.
