Urgent Alert Update: Nigeria – Leader of Islamic Movement out of immediate danger
Further to yesterday’s urgent alert, IHRC is pleased to report that the crisis situation in Zaria, Kaduna State, has abated for now.
Mu’allim Al-Zakzaky has sent a message to all those who campaigned over the last two days in support of the Islamic Movement and against the atrocities committed against them (see Urgent Alert https://www.ihrc.org.uk/activities/alerts/9077-urgent-alert-nigeria-leader-of-islamic-movement-under-immediate-threat-from-security-services-at-least-five-people-shot-and-killed-and-several-injured-at-pro-palestine-demonstration-in-zaria for more background information)
Al-Zakzkay states that while the immediate danger has subsided those who had instigated the violence and threats of the last few days continue to plot and requests that campaigners continue their activism.
IHRC requests that campaigners send messages of concern regarding the actions of the Nigerian police against the movement in the last few days. Please write to or email the Nigerian Embassy / High Commission in your country and the Foreign Minister in your country. Model letters will be posted soon.
