EID PACKS FOR PRISONERS
IHRC will be distributing prison Eid packs for Eid al-Fitr 2014.
Sending small gifts for Eid to prisoners can be a major boost for them. It is a sign that they are still connected with the wider community. One prisoner described the gifts as: “A little bit of a present from outside gives you a bit of reality, a bit of hope.” Our Eid packs for Eid al-Fitr 2012 and 2013 were very well received. PRESS RELEASES
CONFUSED GOVERNMENT POLICY ENCOURAGES FOREIGN FIGHTERSÂ
IHRC chair Massoud Shadjareh said: “Government policy needs to be consistent for all communities and also internally coherent so that the government does not find itself in a position where it is supporting an armed uprising but prosecuting its own citizens who take part in it.”
EGYPT ASSAULT ON PRESS FREEDOMÂ
The sentencing of six journalists in Egypt to jail terms is a brazen and dangerous assault on press freedom with perilous implications for media, civil society and the general population.

As we count down to Al Quds Day on July 25th, take a minute to look at a few pertinent titles.
Married To Another Man: Leading writer Ghada Karmi explains in fascinating detail the difficulties Israel’s existence created for the Arab world and why the search for a solution has been so elusive. Ultimately, she argues that the conflict will end only once the needs of both Arabs and Israelis are accommodated equally. Her startling conclusions overturn conventional thinking — but they are hard to refute.
One Country: A Bold Proposal to End the Israeli-Palestinian Impasse: It is by now a commonplace that the only way to end the Israeli-Palestinian violence is to divide the territory in two. All efforts at resolving the conflict have come down to haggling over who gets what: Will Israel hand over 90 percent of the West Bank or only 60 percent?
The One-state Solution: A Breakthrough Plan for Peace in the Israeli-Palestinian Deadlock: Revealing the irreversible impact of Israel’s settlement grid by summarising its physical, demographic, financial and political dimensions; Virginia Q.Tilley explains why we should assume that this grid will not be withdrawn – or its expansion reversed. She does so by reviewing the role of the key political actors: the Israeli government, the United States, the Arab states, and the European Union.
