Also a quick reminder that our next ‘Know Your Rights’ workshop will be taking place on Tuesday, 14 October. This one is all about how to deal with uncomfortable situations involving immigration officers. Hope to see you there!

UK CONFERENCE – EXPERTS TO GATHER TO DISCUSS STRATEGIES AGAINST INSTITUTIONAL ISLAMOPHOBIA AND RACISM – SATURDAY 13 DECEMBER 

The Islamic Human Rights Commission (IHRC) will be holding a conference focused on tackling Islamophobia that will take place on Saturday 13 December featuring an expert panel of speakers. The focus of the event is to analyse institutional and structural forms of prejudice and hatred with some focus on recent events, particularly surrounding education, political activism, the criminalisation of dissent, the role of the media and the Prevent agenda.

Make sure you’re in the audience on the day! Prepare by reading ‘Enduring Hierarchies of Power: On Islamophobia Today’ by Arzu Merali.

NHRC TO HOLD PUBLIC HEARING ON ZARIA QUDS DAY KILLINGS 

Human rights groups across the world, both national and international, have expressed readiness to ensure justice is done in the extrajudicial killings of innocent people by Nigerian soldiers on July 25, 2014.

The Islamic Human Rights Commission (IHRC) had visited Nigeria where it conducted preliminary findings on “The Zaria Massacre and the Role of the Military”.

WHAT: The International Institute for Scientific Studies – a member organisation of Decoloniality Europe – is setting up a new series of books entitled ‘Decolonizing The Mind’. The series is about the legacy of colonialism in knowledge production and distribution and topics that are relevant for social movements that struggle against this legacy.
